Development & the Environment

development & the environment

Paul Fisher and Axiom have 10 years experience in fostering awareness and dialogue on complex issues of sustainable and equitable economic development and the environment. Organisations that Paul has provided support for include the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and the Mekong River Commission internationally and in the UK the Cotswold Conservation Board.

The Asian Development Bank

From 2003 to 2006, Paul Fisher and Axiom worked in partnership with Tim Cullen Associates, a leading international policy management company, to roll-out the Asian Development Bank’s Water Awareness Programme. The programme was set up to increase awareness of water issues in Asia and create an environment to foster water sector reform. This included the development of the Asia Pacific Water Media Network and the design and implementation of 14 water media workshops throughout Asia training more than 400 journalists. Other communications products included an Asian Water Wire and a series of documentaries on Asian water issues.

The Commission on Growth & Development

From February to July 2008, Paul Fisher, again operating alongside Tim Cullen Associates, worked on the dissemination activities of The Commission on Growth and Development, an independent body consisting of 21 world leaders brought together to deepen the understanding of sustained, rapid and inclusive growth and development. The Commission was chaired by Professor Michael Spence, Nobel Laureate and Professor Emeritus Stanford University.

Responsibilities included communicating the contents of the final report – ‘The Growth Report’ to the media, policy makers, multilateral and bilateral donors, opinion leaders, and academia in both developed and developing countries. Axiom helped coordinate the launch of the report in London in May 2008 which resulted in widespread media coverage in publications such as the Financial Times, Economist, Washington Post and Wall Street Journal. Other activities included meetings with parliamentarians, the Department for International Development (DfID) and with NGOs and academia.

The Cotswolds Conservation Board

As well as international work, Axiom also partners with PR agency, Parabola Communications, to support the Cotswolds Conservation Board in developing their bi-annual publication, the Cotswold Lion, which focuses on environmental and biodiversity issues. The Cotswolds Conservation Board exists to conserve and enhance the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in the United Kingdom.

Global Development Network (GDN)

The Global Development Network (GDN) is a global network of development research and policy institutes based in India. Axiom held communications and presentations skills workshops for speakers at the GDN’s 10th Annual Conference in Kuwait. 30 speakers were trained including a number of winners of the Global Development Awards.

Mekong River Commission

Axiom and Tim Cullen Associates coordinated a series of messaging and media workshops for the Secretariat of the Mekong River Commission (MRC), an international, country-driven river basin organisation responsible for the management of the Mekong River in South East Asia. Axiom was also tasked by the MRC to review its current communications strategies with the media and other stakeholders, develop recommendations, and help the MRC Secretariat generate clear and consistent messages.
